Instructions

Place hot dogs on a cutting board and use a knife to make diagonal slits on one side every inch or so (this is not required but helps with expansion and mimics grill marks). Put the hot dogs into the air fryer basket. For fresh hot dogs, air fry at 350F for 5 minutes. For frozen hot dogs, air fry at 330F for 7-8 minutes.

Using tongs, carefully lift each cooked hot dog out of the basket and place it into a hot dog bun. Then, add the bun and hot dog back to the air fryer. Repeat with all cooked hot dogs. Air fry at 350F for another 2-3 minutes until the bun is toasted and warmed.

The hot dogs are done with they are expanded, sizzling, and browning at the edges, and your bun is toasty and browning on the edges. Remove from the basket using tongs. Add your favorite toppings including mustard, ketchup and relish. I recommend making only as many hot dogs as needed. However, you can store leftover cooked hot dogs in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Score Hot Dogs for Even Cooking 🔪Make shallow diagonal cuts across the surface of each hot dog before air frying to ensure even heat penetration and create a caramelized exterior that browns beautifully.
- Toast Buns Separately for Perfect Texture 🍞Add buns to the air fryer during the last 1-2 minutes of cooking, placing them cut-side up for a golden, crispy interior that won't get soggy from toppings or steam.
- Frozen vs Fresh Temperature Adjustment ❄️Cook frozen hot dogs at 380°F for 8-10 minutes, while fresh hot dogs only need 5-7 minutes at 390°F—frozen requires slightly lower heat to prevent burning the exterior before the center cooks.
- Pre-Assemble Your Topping Station 🛠️Arrange all condiments and toppings in small bowls before cooking so you can quickly assemble hot dogs while buns are still warm and crispy, maximizing texture and flavor impact.
- Lightly Spray Hot Dogs for Better Browning 🌊Use a light coating of cooking spray on hot dogs before air frying to achieve a professional-looking caramelized casing similar to griddle cooking, enhancing visual appeal and taste.
