In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking, swirling occasionally, until it foams and turns golden brown with a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Preheat oven to 175 °C (350 °F), grease or line a loaf pan (18–21 cm / 8×4-inch). Mash bananas in a large bowl. Add both sugars and the cooled brown butter. Mix until creamy. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to the banana mixture and stir gently until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.

Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle with extra chocolate chips on top. Bake for 55–65 minutes.

Cover with a clean kitchen towel as it cools to keep it extra moist. Let it fully cool before slicing.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Brown Butter Perfectly 🧈Watch the butter constantly over medium heat until it turns golden amber with a nutty aroma (about 5-7 minutes), then immediately pour into a bowl to stop cooking. This prevents burning and ensures the signature deep flavor that elevates this bread.
- Banana Ripeness is Critical 🍌Use bananas with brown speckles and slightly soft skin for maximum sweetness and moisture; over-ripe bananas contain more natural sugars that enhance flavor and create a tender crumb without needing extra liquid.
- Toast Your Chocolate Chips 🍫Lightly toast chocolate chips in a 325°F oven for 3-4 minutes before folding them in to intensify their flavor and prevent them from completely melting into the batter, creating pockets of melty chocolate throughout.
- Mix Wet and Dry Separately ⚗️Combine all dry ingredients in one bowl and wet ingredients in another, then fold together gently until just combined—this prevents overmixing, which develops gluten and creates a dense, tough crumb instead of a moist, tender loaf.
- Cool Before Slicing 🔪Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack for at least 1 hour before slicing to let the crumb set properly and prevent it from crumbling or appearing gummy.
