Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
2
In a large bowl, beat the cake mix, water, oil, and egg whites for 3 minutes.
3
Bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
4
Remove the cake from the oven, and allow to cool for 5-10 minutes.
5
Poke holes all over the cake every ½ inch or so, using a skewer stick or large fork.
6
Prepare the Jell-O by bringing 1 cup of water to a boil, and stirring in the gelatin until dissolved. Stir in another 1 cup of water, and whisk for 3 minutes.
7
Slowly pour the prepared liquid over the cake, allowing it to absorb into the holes.
8
Refrigerate for 4 hours. To serve, top with whipped topping and maraschino cherries.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Pierce Strategically for Even Absorption 🎯Use a fork or skewer to create evenly-spaced holes across the entire cake surface while still warm, ensuring the cherry Jello mixture penetrates deeply and distributes uniformly throughout for maximum flavor in every bite.
- Cool Jello to Perfect Consistency ❄️Let the Jello mixture cool for 10-15 minutes after mixing until it reaches a slightly thickened consistency before pouring over the cake—this prevents it from running off the sides and ensures better absorption into the holes.
- Reserve Maraschino Cherry Juice for Extra Flavor 🍒Don't discard the juice from your maraschino cherries; mix it into the Jello liquid before pouring for intensified cherry flavor and a more sophisticated taste profile.
- Chill Completely Before Adding Toppings ⏱️Refrigerate the cake for at least 4-6 hours or overnight to allow the Jello to fully set and stabilize before adding whipped topping, preventing it from sliding off and ensuring clean, professional presentation.
- Stabilize Whipped Topping for Durability 🎪Add 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and a pinch of vanilla to your whipped topping just before applying to help it hold its shape longer and maintain stability in warm conditions.
