Tips & Tricks (5)
- Brown Your Beef Properly 🥩Use high heat and avoid crowding the pan when browning ground beef; let it develop a deep crust for 3-4 minutes before stirring to maximize savory flavor depth.
- Bloom Your Spices 🌶️Toast your chili powder, garlic powder, and onion powder in the hot oil for 30 seconds before adding meat to release their essential oils and intensify their complex flavors.
- Layer Your Cornbread Topping ⭐Don't overmix the cornbread batter; gently fold it together and spread directly over the hot chili—the heat will help it rise perfectly, creating a fluffy, golden crust.
- Taste and Season in Layers 👅Season the chili base before adding beans, then taste again after simmering to adjust for salt and spice balance, since flavors concentrate as liquid reduces.
- Rest Before Serving 🕐Let the finished pie cool for 5 minutes after baking so the cornbread sets properly and the chili thickens slightly, preventing it from becoming runny when served.
