Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Room Temperature Ingredients for Even Baking 🌡️
Allow eggs, sour cream or Greek yogurt, and butter to reach room temperature before mixing to ensure proper emulsification and consistent crumb texture throughout the donuts.
  • Don't Overmix the Batter 🥄
Mix the wet and dry ingredients until just combined to avoid developing excess gluten, which results in tough, dense donuts instead of tender, cake-like crumbs.
  • Freeze Crumb Topping for Maximum Crunch ❄️
Prepare the cinnamon-sugar crumb mixture and freeze it for 15-20 minutes before topping the donuts so it stays chunky and doesn't blend into the batter during baking.
  • Brush with Melted Butter Immediately After Baking 🧈
Apply melted butter to the warm donuts right out of the oven before adding the crumb topping, which helps it adhere better and creates a more cohesive, delicious coating.
  • Use High-Quality Sour Cream or Greek Yogurt 🥛
Choose full-fat varieties with no additives to achieve the signature tender, moist crumb and authentic tangy flavor that distinguishes premium crumb cake donuts.
