Easy Football Muddy Buddies for Game Day
Instructions
1
Pour the cereal into a big mixing bowl. Set aside for later.
2
Next, fill a pot with about 1-2 inches of water and bring it to a gentle simmer. Add the chocolate chips, unsalted butter cubes, Nutella, and Kosher salt to a heatproof mixing bowl. Set the bowl over the simmering water, ensuring that the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl. Stir constantly, just until the chocolate mixture is smooth and completely melted.
3
Remove the chocolate mixture from the heat and immediately pour it over the cereal. Use a rubber spatula to gently stir everything together until the cereal is completely covered in chocolate. Make sure to break up any large clumps. Then, let the cereal mixture cool for about 5 minutes and transfer it to a large zipper bag.
4
Meanwhile, whisk the powdered sugar and cocoa powder in a small bowl. Pour half of the powdered sugar-cocoa mixture over the puppy chow. Seal and shake the bag rapidly until the snack mix is well-covered. Break up any big chunks with your hands. Then, repeat with the other half of the powdered sugar-cocoa mix.
5
Spread the muddy buddies on a big sheet pan and let it set completely, about 20-30 minutes. Then, stir in the M&Ms and football sprinkles. Store in an airtight container for 2-3 weeks.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Melt Chocolate Hazelnut Spread Perfectly 🫒Combine chocolate hazelnut spread and butter in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 20-second intervals and stirring between each to prevent scorching and ensure smooth, lump-free coating.
- Toast Cereal Lightly for Crunch 🍂Lightly toast your rice cereal in a dry pan for 2-3 minutes before mixing to enhance its texture and prevent it from becoming soggy when coated with the chocolate mixture.
- Use Parchment Paper for Easy Cleanup 📄Spread the finished muddy buddies on parchment paper instead of directly on a surface—this makes cleanup effortless and prevents sticking while they set.
- Chill Before Adding M&Ms and Sprinkles 🧊Let the coated cereal cool for 5-10 minutes before adding M&Ms and football sprinkles so they won't melt into the chocolate coating and maintain their vibrant colors.
- Mix in Batches for Even Coating 🥣Divide cereal into two batches when coating with the chocolate mixture—this ensures every piece gets evenly covered rather than having some pieces clumpy and others dry.
