Tips & Tricks (5)
- Brown the Beef Properly 🥩Don't stir the ground beef immediately after adding it to the skillet; let it sit undisturbed for 2-3 minutes to develop a deep, caramelized crust that builds a flavorful foundation for your chili.
- Bloom Your Spices 🌶️Toast the cumin, smoked paprika, and chili powder in the pan with the onions and garlic for 30 seconds before adding other ingredients to unlock their essential oils and intensify their warm, complex flavors.
- Balance Acidity & Richness 🍋Finish your chili with a squeeze of fresh lime juice to cut through the richness of the cheese and sour cream, brightening the overall flavor profile while enhancing the spice complexity.
- Use Two Types of Beans 🫘Combine kidney and black beans to create textural variety and depth—kidney beans add heartiness while black beans contribute an earthy sweetness that rounds out the chili's flavor.
- Simmer Low and Slow 🔥After combining all ingredients, let the chili simmer uncovered on low heat for at least 10-15 minutes to allow flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken naturally without becoming overly concentrated.
