Tips & Tricks (5)
- Toast Your Oats First 🔥Lightly toast the old-fashioned oats in a dry skillet for 2-3 minutes before mixing into the crumble topping to enhance their nutty flavor and prevent a soggy texture in the finished bars.
- Cold Butter for Texture ❄️Keep your butter cold and cut it into small cubes before mixing with the dry ingredients; this creates a crumbly, tender topping rather than a dense, cake-like layer.
- Layer Your Filling Strategically 🎯Spread a thin base layer of crumble first, add your fruit preserves, then top with the remaining crumble to prevent the filling from soaking through and making the bottom soggy.
- Don't Skip the Wheat Germ 🌾Toast the wheat germ lightly before adding it to boost its nutritional impact and prevent it from becoming chewy; it adds crucial texture and nutty depth to the crumble.
- Cool Completely Before Cutting ✂️Allow the bars to cool for at least 2-3 hours at room temperature (or chill in the refrigerator) before cutting into clean, uniform pieces for a professional presentation.
