Instructions

1
|
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2
|
Beat together the butter and cream cheese until smooth and well combined.
3
|
Add the egg and vanilla and beat to combine. Add the powdered sugar and beat until smooth. Add the flour and beat until combined.
4
|
Place around 1 teaspoon of gel food coloring in the batter and beat until well mixed. Add more food coloring, if needed, until the desired shade of green is reached.
5
|
Use a tablespoon to scoop out heaping scoops of dough. Roll the dough between your hands and place it on the lined baking sheet. Slightly press down each cookie.
6
|
Bake the cookies for 15 to 17 minutes, until the bottom is lightly browned.
7
|
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for five minutes or until firm, then transfer to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
8
|
When the cookies are cool, lightly dust each cookie with powdered sugar. Place a small drop of red icing, on the bottom of each cookie, then press a heart sprinkle into the icing to hold it into place.

Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Cream Cheese Temperature Control 🧈
Soften cream cheese to room temperature before mixing to ensure smooth, lump-free icing that spreads evenly without tearing the delicate cookie surface.
  • Green Coloring Intensity Hack 💚
Use gel food coloring instead of liquid to achieve the vibrant Grinch green without diluting your dough, which can affect texture and spreading.
  • Chill Dough for Sharp Details ❄️
Refrigerate dough for at least 2 hours before cutting to maintain crisp, well-defined cookie edges that showcase the Grinch character details beautifully.
  • Sprinkle Placement Timing ⏰
Add red heart sprinkles to wet icing immediately after frosting, as they'll adhere better and won't slide off once the icing sets.
  • Powdered Sugar Sifting Secret 🎯
Sift powdered sugar through a fine mesh strainer before mixing into icing to eliminate lumps and create a smoother, more professional-looking frosting finish.
