Tips & Tricks (5)
- Brown Butter for Depth 🧈Melt your unsalted butter and cook it for 2-3 minutes until it turns golden brown with a nutty aroma, then cool slightly before mixing—this elevates the flavor complexity far beyond standard butter.
- Mix Sugar Blend Strategically 🍬Cream equal parts white and brown sugar together for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy, which incorporates air and creates bars with a tender, cake-like texture rather than dense squares.
- Toast Your Sprinkles Last ✨Reserve half your sprinkles to fold in at the very end of mixing and scatter the remainder on top before baking—this prevents color bleeding into the batter while keeping vibrant, crispy sprinkles throughout.
- Chill Dough for Even Baking 🧊Refrigerate your prepared batter for 30 minutes before spreading into the pan, which prevents excessive spreading and ensures uniform thickness and perfect browning of edges.
- Test Doneness Perfectly 🎯Remove bars when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet), then let cool in the pan for 15 minutes before cutting—this prevents crumbly, overbaked bars while maintaining the signature soft texture.
