Notes

1
|
*you can sub the simple syrup and use maple syrup instead (which is what I do when I’m feeling really lazy).
2
|
*to make the sugared rosemary: wet the sprig of rosemary and shake off any excess water. toss in sugar and let sit for 30 minutes to dry.

To make Rosemary Simple Syrup:

1
|
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, and 3 sprigs of rosemary and place over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a simmer and lower the heat a bit. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes at which time the sugar should have completely dissolved and the syrup started to thicken. Let cool slightly, remove the rosemary, and then pour into an air tight container for storage.

Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Muddle Fresh Cranberries Gently 🫐
Lightly press fresh cranberries in the shaker to release juices and oils without crushing them into bitter pulp; this creates a balanced tartness and beautiful visual texture in your drink.
  • Infuse Rosemary Simple Syrup Properly 🌿
Steep fresh rosemary in hot simple syrup for 15-20 minutes, then strain immediately to avoid an overpowering herbal flavor that can overpower the cocktail's delicate balance.
  • Choose Quality Bourbon Wisely 🥃
Select a wheated bourbon with vanilla and caramel notes rather than high-rye bourbons, as these complement the cranberry and rosemary flavors without creating competing spice profiles.
  • Fresh Lemon Juice Is Non-Negotiable 🍋
Always use freshly squeezed lemon juice rather than bottled; the bright acidity cuts through the sweetness of the rosemary syrup and cranberry juice, creating proper cocktail balance and complexity.
  • Chill Your Glass and Shake with Ice 🧊
Pre-chill your coupe or rocks glass and shake vigorously for 10-12 seconds with quality ice to properly dilute and blend ingredients while creating a silky texture and optimal serving temperature.
