Notes
1
*you can sub the simple syrup and use maple syrup instead (which is what I do when I’m feeling really lazy).
2
*to make the sugared rosemary: wet the sprig of rosemary and shake off any excess water. toss in sugar and let sit for 30 minutes to dry.
To make Rosemary Simple Syrup:
1
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, and 3 sprigs of rosemary and place over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a simmer and lower the heat a bit. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes at which time the sugar should have completely dissolved and the syrup started to thicken. Let cool slightly, remove the rosemary, and then pour into an air tight container for storage.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Muddle Gently for Optimal Flavor 🍃Lightly muddle fresh cranberries and rosemary sprigs to release oils and juices without crushing them into bitter pulp; 5-6 gentle presses is ideal for this delicate cocktail.
- Infuse Rosemary Simple Syrup 24 Hours Ahead ⏰Prepare your rosemary simple syrup at least a day before serving to allow the herbaceous notes to fully develop and create a more complex, sophisticated flavor profile.
- Balance Citrus Acidity Precisely 🍋Measure your fresh lemon juice accurately and add it last; too much will overpower the delicate rosemary-cranberry balance, while too little loses the signature whiskey smash brightness.
- Chill Your Glassware First 🧊Pre-chill your cocktail glass in the freezer for at least 15 minutes to ensure the drink stays perfectly cold throughout sipping and maintains its festive presentation.
- Select High-Quality Bourbon Thoughtfully 🥃Choose a mid-range bourbon with warm vanilla or caramel notes (avoid heavily peated varieties) to complement rather than compete with the tart cranberry and herbaceous rosemary elements.
