Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Brown the Beef Properly 🍖
Don't skip browning the ground beef in batches over medium-high heat—this develops deep flavor through the Maillard reaction and prevents the meat from steaming, which waters down your casserole.
  • Layer Strategically for Even Distribution 🧅
Alternate layers of tortilla chips, meat mixture, and cheese rather than mixing everything together—this ensures every bite has balanced texture and flavor distribution throughout the casserole.
  • Balance Your Creaminess 🥣
Since you're using two cream soups plus processed cheese, reduce or omit extra liquid and drain your diced tomatoes well to prevent the casserole from becoming watery and losing its structural integrity.
  • Toast Chips Before Assembly 🔥
Lightly toast your tortilla chips in a 300°F oven for 3-4 minutes before layering to prevent them from becoming soggy and mushy during the longer bake time.
  • Rest After Baking for Clean Slices ⏱️
Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes after removing from the oven—this allows the creamy layers to set, making it much easier to cut and serve without falling apart.
