Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Brown Your Beef Properly 🥘
Don't skip browning the ground beef in a separate skillet before adding to the casserole—this creates a flavorful fond and ensures the meat doesn't steam, giving you better texture and deeper flavor throughout the dish.
  • Layer Your Tortilla Chips Strategically 🍟
Reserve half your tortilla chips to layer in the middle and half for the top; this prevents the bottom layer from becoming soggy while ensuring crispy texture throughout the casserole.
  • Balance Your Cream Soups 🥣
Whisk the cream of mushroom and chicken soups together with a splash of milk or beef broth before mixing into the casserole to avoid lumps and create a smooth, cohesive sauce that coats everything evenly.
  • Drain and Dry Your Vegetables 🫒
Pat your diced tomatoes with green chiles with paper towels to remove excess moisture before adding them—this prevents the casserole from becoming watery and helps maintain the perfect texture.
  • Don't Overmix Your Cheese Layers 🧀
Sprinkle cheddar and processed cheese in distinct layers rather than stirring thoroughly; this creates pockets of melted cheese throughout and prevents clumping while baking at 350°F for 25-30 minutes.
