Tips & Tricks (5)
- Brown Your Beef Properly 🥘Don't skip browning the ground beef in a separate skillet before adding to the casserole—this creates a flavorful fond and ensures the meat doesn't steam, giving you better texture and deeper flavor throughout the dish.
- Layer Your Tortilla Chips Strategically 🍟Reserve half your tortilla chips to layer in the middle and half for the top; this prevents the bottom layer from becoming soggy while ensuring crispy texture throughout the casserole.
- Balance Your Cream Soups 🥣Whisk the cream of mushroom and chicken soups together with a splash of milk or beef broth before mixing into the casserole to avoid lumps and create a smooth, cohesive sauce that coats everything evenly.
- Drain and Dry Your Vegetables 🫒Pat your diced tomatoes with green chiles with paper towels to remove excess moisture before adding them—this prevents the casserole from becoming watery and helps maintain the perfect texture.
- Don't Overmix Your Cheese Layers 🧀Sprinkle cheddar and processed cheese in distinct layers rather than stirring thoroughly; this creates pockets of melted cheese throughout and prevents clumping while baking at 350°F for 25-30 minutes.
