Instructions
1
|
Preheat the oven to 400℉. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2
|
Whisk the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and baking powder together in a large bowl. Cut the cold cubed butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter until the pieces of butter are the size of peas. Fold in the chopped apples.
3
|
In another bowl, whisk together the whipping cream, egg, and vanilla. Add to the flour/butter/apple mixture and gently fold with a spatula until the dough just starts to come together. Turn the contents of the bowl onto the countertop and knead/press the mixture just until the dough comes together.

|
Shape the dough into 3 even rounds each about 1 inch thick. Cut each round into 4 even wedges using a large knife and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet. Top each scone with a sprinkle of coarse sugar and oats, if desired. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until golden. Enjoy!

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Butter Temperature Magic 🧈Use extremely cold, cubed butter and work quickly to create those signature flaky layers in your scones - even freeze the butter for 10-15 minutes before cutting in for ultimate texture.
- Apple Moisture Management 🍎Pat diced apples dry with paper towels before adding to the mix to prevent excess moisture from making your scones soggy and ensure a perfectly tender crumb.
- Oat Texture Optimization 🥣Toast your quick-cooking oats in a dry skillet for 2-3 minutes before adding to the recipe to enhance their nutty flavor and improve overall scone complexity.
- Cinnamon Bloom Technique 🌶️Bloom your ground cinnamon in warm melted butter for 30 seconds before incorporating into the mixture to intensify its aromatic qualities and depth of flavor.
- Shaping & Cutting Pro Tip ✂️Use a sharp bench scraper or knife to cut scones, pressing straight down without twisting to ensure clean, even rises and beautiful defined edges.
