Ingredients

  • 5 - small Apples
  • 1 cup - White sugar
  • 2 tablespoons - All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp - Apple pie spice
  • ½ tsp - Salt
  • 1 tsp - Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp - Lemon juice
  • 17 ⅓ ounces - Puff pastry
  • ½ cup - Icing sugar
  • 1 tsp - Apple pie spice
  • 1 tsp - Maple syrup
  • Milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chopped apples, white sugar, flour, apple pie spice, salt, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice.
  2. Stir to coat the apple completely in the mixture and let sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven according to puff pastry directions.
  4. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  5. Unroll and cut the puff pastry with a pizza cutter into 4” squares.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the apple pie mixture in the centre of each square of puff pastry.
  7. Fold the turnovers by bringing one corner of the puff pastry diagonally across and pressing to the diagonally opposite corner.
  8. Press the edges of the folded puff pastry together to form a seal, and then use a fork to make a crimped edge. Make two small cuts in the top of the puff pastry using kitchen shears.
  9. Set each turnover on the prepared baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 12 minutes, until golden brown.
  11. If you want to top these apple turnovers with some icing drizzle, combine the drizzle ingredients in a small bowl and adjust to your personal preferences.
  12. Drizzle over the apple turnovers and allow to set before serving.
