Instructions

1
|
Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a sauté pan over medium heat and sauté the onions and 1/2 teaspoon of salt for 4 minutes or until tender. Set aside to cool.
2
|
In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled sautéed onions, ground chicken, BBQ sauce, onion powder, garlic powder and remainder of salt and mix. Don't over mix to avoid tough, chewy burgers.
3
|
Evenly divide the mixture into 4 pieces for regular sized burgers, or 8 pieces for mini burgers. Shape into patties.
4
|
Heat remaining tbsp of oil in a pan and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes (3-4 minutes for sliders) on each side.
5
|
Place 1 slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and allow to melt.
6
|
Place burgers on buns and top with desired accompaniments.

Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Bind Your Patties with Breadcrumbs 🍞
Mix 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs with your ground chicken to prevent dry, crumbly burgers and improve texture and moisture retention during grilling.
  • Chill Patties Before Grilling ❄️
Form patties and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before cooking to keep them intact on the grill and prevent them from falling apart or becoming too thin.
  • Create a Shallow Indent 👇
Press a shallow thumb indentation into the center of each patty before grilling—this prevents the burger from puffing up and ensures even cooking throughout.
  • Toast Your Buns Properly 🔥
Brush burger buns lightly with oil and grill them cut-side down for 1-2 minutes until golden; this prevents sogginess from toppings and adds incredible texture.
  • Add BBQ Sauce in Layers 🎨
Apply BBQ sauce during the last minute of cooking and again after the burger leaves the grill—this creates a caramelized glaze while keeping the interior moist and flavorful.
