For the Simple Syrup
1
In a small saucepan set over medium-high heat, combine the water, granulated sugar, mint leaves, and blood orange juice. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar has dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat. Cover and allow the syrup to steep for 30 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the mint leaves and orange pulp.
2
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
For Blood Orange Mojito
1
Mix the rum, lime juice, blood orange juice, simple syrup, and mint in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake for about 30 seconds so that the drink is thoroughly mixed and nicely chilled.
2
Strain into a highball glass filled with ice and top with club soda. Garnish with mint leaves and a slice of blood orange. ENJOY!
Notes
1
To make a virgin mojito, leave out the rum.
2
I recommend using freshly squeezed juice. It really makes a difference.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Muddle Gently for Perfect Texture 🍃Press the mint leaves gently against the glass for 3-4 seconds to release oils without crushing them into bitter pieces; this preserves the fresh flavor and prevents cloudiness in your drink.
- Fresh-Squeezed Citrus is Essential 🍊Always juice blood oranges and limes immediately before mixing to maximize vitamin C content and bright acidity; bottled juice will dull the vibrant, complex citrus notes that define this cocktail.
- Make Simple Syrup with Blood Orange Juice 🍯Infuse your simple syrup with fresh blood orange juice (1:1 ratio with water and sugar) to deepen the flavor profile and create a cohesive taste throughout the drink.
- Chill Your Glassware First ❄️Pre-chill your highball or rocks glass in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving to keep the mojito at optimal temperature longer and prevent dilution from melting ice.
- Layer Ice Strategically for Balance 🧊Fill the glass with crushed ice rather than cubes—it chills faster, melts slower, and creates a smoother texture while allowing better integration of all flavor components throughout your sip.
