Tips & Tricks (5)
- Render Bacon Fat First 🥓Cook bacon until crispy to render maximum fat, then use that flavorful drippings as your cooking base for the carrots and onions—this creates an incredibly rich foundation that store-bought oil cannot replicate.
- Cut Carrots Uniformly 🥕Slice carrots into even 1/4-inch thick coins or sticks so they cook at the same rate and achieve consistent tenderness without any raw or mushy pieces.
- Bloom Your Spice Blend 🌿Toast your all-purpose seasoning blend in the hot bacon fat for 30 seconds before adding carrots to unlock deeper, more complex spice flavors that infuse throughout the dish.
- Layer Your Brown Sugar 🍯Add brown sugar in two stages—half at the beginning for caramelization depth, and the remainder in the final minutes for a sticky, glossy coating that clings beautifully to each carrot.
- Test Carrot Doneness Early ✨Pierce a carrot with a fork at the 15-minute mark; they should be fork-tender but still hold their shape, preventing the mushy texture that occurs from overcooking in the sweet glaze.
