Tips & Tricks (5)
- Choose the Right Cut 🔪Cut cauliflower steaks 1.5 to 2 inches thick from the center of the head to ensure they hold together during cooking and develop a beautiful caramelized crust while staying tender inside.
- Preheat Cast Iron Properly 🍳Place your cast iron skillet in a 450°F+ oven for at least 10 minutes before adding the steaks so it reaches optimal heat for immediate browning and crust development.
- Pat Dry for Better Browning 💧Use paper towels to thoroughly dry the cauliflower steaks after cutting—removing surface moisture prevents steaming and allows the seasoning to adhere better for deeper flavor and color.
- Bloom Your Spices in Oil 🌶️Mix your garlic powder, cumin, and paprika with olive oil to create a paste before coating the steaks; this blooms the spices and distributes flavor more evenly than dry seasoning alone.
- Don't Skip the Second Sear 🔥After roasting, briefly sear the cooked steaks in a hot cast iron skillet for 1-2 minutes per side to restore crispness and enhance browning for restaurant-quality presentation.
