Instructions
1
|
In a medium saucepan, bring the milk/water to a boil. Once boiling, stir in the oats, maple syrup, salt, and cinnamon until well combined.
2
|
Lower the heat to a simmer and cook the oatmeal, stirring often, for 5 minutes.
3
|
Remove from the heat and stir in any additional sweetener and add any toppings as desired. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
1
|
*I often make this with oat milk or coconut milk. Both result in a deliciously creamy texture in the oatmeal. But water also works well!
2
|
Leftover oatmeal can be refrigerated for up to about 5 days or frozen for 3 months. Reheat in the microwave or on the stove, adding milk or water as needed for the right consistency.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Toast Your Oats First 🔥Dry toast old-fashioned oats in a pan for 2-3 minutes before adding liquid to enhance their nutty flavor and prevent mushiness by creating a protective coating on each oat.
- Use a Liquid Ratio of 1:2 💧Maintain a 1 cup oats to 2 cups liquid ratio for perfectly fluffy, non-mushy oatmeal that maintains its texture while absorbing all the flavorful seasoning.
- Add Cinnamon in Stages 🤎Bloom half your cinnamon in the cooking liquid at the start for depth, then sprinkle the remaining cinnamon on top just before serving to preserve its fresh, aromatic quality.
- Dice Apples Just Before Cooking 🍎Cut apples into small pieces and add them in the last 3-4 minutes of cooking so they stay slightly firm and don't become mushy or turn brown from oxidation.
- Toast Nuts Separately for Crunch 🥜Lightly toast your nuts in a dry pan and add them just before serving instead of cooking them in the oatmeal to maintain their crispy texture and prevent them from becoming soggy.
