Tips & Tricks (5)
- Brown Your Beef First 🍳Sear the ground beef in a hot skillet before adding to the crockpot to develop deep, caramelized flavors that enhance the entire chili's complexity and richness.
- Toast Your Spices 🌶️Bloom the chili powder, cumin, and oregano in the hot pan with the beef for 30 seconds to unlock their essential oils and create a more vibrant, aromatic base.
- Layer Your Liquids Strategically 💧Use the diced tomatoes with green chilis as your primary liquid base since they add flavor and acidity, allowing you to reduce added tomato sauce and create a thicker, more concentrated chili.
- Stir in Beans Late 🫘Add kidney beans and black beans during the last 30 minutes of cooking to prevent them from breaking down and becoming mushy, maintaining their texture and structural integrity.
- Taste and Adjust at the End ✅Always do a final seasoning check in the last 15 minutes—the flavors intensify as the chili reduces, so you may need less salt and spice than initially expected.
