Instructions
1
|
Add the water and salt to a pot on the stove. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer (just below a boil) and add the oats.
2
|
Cook the oats for 10 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oatmeal is your desired consistency.
3
|
While the oatmeal is still cooking, mix the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt in a bowl and set aside for about 10 minutes while the oats finish cooking. While the fruit mixture rests, it will give off more liquid which will act as a fruity, lemony syrup for the oats.
4
|
Serve the oatmeal with an optional splash of milk (dairy or non-dairy) and the apple cinnamon topping.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Caramelize Apple Perfection 🍎Sauté diced apples in a touch of butter before adding to oatmeal to enhance their natural sweetness and develop deeper flavor complexity.
- Texture Transformation Technique 🥣Toast rolled oats in the pan for 1-2 minutes before adding water to intensify their nutty flavor and create a richer, more robust oatmeal.
- Liquid Ratio Mastery 💧Use a 1:2 ratio of oats to liquid (water and milk combined) for the creamiest, most luxurious oatmeal texture that's neither too thick nor too runny.
- Cinnamon Layering Trick 🌀Divide your cinnamon application - add half during cooking and sprinkle the remaining on top for a more complex and pronounced cinnamon flavor profile.
- Acid Balance Hack 🍋The squeeze of lemon juice isn't just for preventing apple browning - it also brightens the entire dish by adding a subtle tang that balances the sweetness.
