Easy Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
Oatmeal
Apple Cinnamon Topping
Optional
Instructions
1
Add the water and salt to a pot on the stove. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer (just below a boil) and add the oats.
2
Cook the oats for 10 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oatmeal is your desired consistency.
3
While the oatmeal is still cooking, mix the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt in a bowl and set aside for about 10 minutes while the oats finish cooking. While the fruit mixture rests, it will give off more liquid which will act as a fruity, lemony syrup for the oats.
4
Serve the oatmeal with an optional splash of milk (dairy or non-dairy) and the apple cinnamon topping.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Toast Your Oats First 🔆Dry-toast the rolled oats in a pan for 2-3 minutes before adding liquid to enhance their nutty flavor and create a more complex, restaurant-quality taste.
- Caramelize Your Apples 🍎Sauté diced apples with cinnamon and brown sugar in a separate skillet for 3-4 minutes until golden and jammy, then top your oatmeal for superior texture and concentrated sweetness.
- Lemon Juice Prevents Browning 🍋Toss your diced apples with lemon juice immediately after cutting to prevent oxidation and maintain a bright, fresh appearance both visually and in taste.
- Perfect Consistency Control 💧Use a 1:2 oats-to-liquid ratio and simmer covered for even cooking, then stir in milk at the very end to achieve creamy oatmeal without overcooking the grains.
- Strategic Storage Separation 🥫Keep cooked oatmeal and caramelized apple toppings in separate containers when refrigerating so the apples stay crispy and the oatmeal doesn't absorb excess moisture.
