From the Cook
1/2
Easy Garlic Breadsticks
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
2
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
3
Turn the pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle of roughly 12x6 inches.
4
Cut the dough into twelve 6x1-inch rectangles and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
5
Place the melted butter, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder in a mixing bowl. Whisk to combine.
6
Brush the tops and sides of the breadsticks with half of the seasoned butter, reserving the remaining half.
7
Bake the breadsticks on middle rack of oven, rotating the pan halfway through the cook time, until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped, 15-18 minutes.
8
Check to see that breadsticks are done. Remove from oven or add time as needed.
9
Brush the remaining seasoned butter over the breadsticks. Serve immediately.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Brown Butter for Depth 🧈Melt your butter and cook it for 2-3 minutes until it turns golden brown with a nutty aroma, then brush onto the dough for exponentially richer, more complex garlic flavor.
- Garlic Powder Application Timing ⏱️Apply garlic powder after brushing butter onto the breadsticks rather than mixing it in beforehand, allowing it to toast slightly in the oven for a more vibrant, less harsh garlic taste.
- Room Temperature Dough Success 🌡️Let your pizza dough sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before stretching and shaping to make it more pliable and easier to work with, resulting in tender breadsticks.
- Brush-On Technique Matters 🖌️Use a pastry brush to apply butter evenly in a thin layer rather than spreading thickly, ensuring even browning and preventing greasy, soggy bottoms.
- Finishing Salt Elevates Everything 🧂Sprinkle finishing salt (like fleur de sel) immediately after removing from the oven while butter is still warm, creating pockets of salty crunch that enhance all the flavors.
