With a thin, chewy, brown crust and nice soft center, these really taste like soft pretzels from the bakery! Keep them in mind for an Oktoberfest celebration to pair with a dunkel beer, or for a football watching party. (They’d also make a great project to do with kids.) For perfect results, first boil the pretzels in fizzy baking soda water so they puff and develop a chewy texture. Then bake them in a hot oven to create a gorgeous golden brown crust. Serve them with your favorite mustard for dunking. The recipe is a Yummly original created by Ashley Strickland Freeman.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Baking Soda Bath Magic 🧼For authentic pretzel texture, create a precise 9:1 water to baking soda ratio in your boiling solution, and only dip pretzels for 20-30 seconds to achieve that classic dark, chewy crust.
- Yeast Activation Secret 🍞Always proof your yeast in warm (not hot) water between 100-110°F to ensure maximum rising power without killing the active cultures.
- Shaping Pro Technique 👐Roll pretzel dough into a 24-inch rope and create the classic twist by forming a U-shape, crossing the ends, and pressing them down firmly to create the traditional pretzel knot.
- Egg Wash Brilliance 🥚Mix your egg wash with a teaspoon of water and brush it generously just before baking to achieve that gorgeous, deep golden-brown pretzel shine.
- Salt Precision 🧂Sprinkle coarse salt immediately after the egg wash to ensure it sticks perfectly, and use a light touch to distribute evenly without oversalting.
