1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9-inch square baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
2
Whisk together the mashed bananas, applesauce, honey, stevia (if using), egg, and vanilla in a medium bowl until combined. Add the oat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir with a rubber spatula until the mixture becomes a smooth batter. Fold in the chocolate chips (if using).
3
Pour batter into the prepared baking pan.
4
Bake the brownies on middle rack of oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 25-27 minutes.
5
Check to see that brownies are done. Remove from oven or add time as needed.

Allow brownies to cool to room temperature, then transfer to refrigerator to cool for at least 2 hours.
7
Remove brownies from refrigerator, cut into squares, and serve.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Banana Ripeness for Fudgy Texture 🍌Use very ripe bananas (with brown spots) to maximize natural sweetness and moisture, creating the fudgiest texture without overmixing the batter.
- Bloom Your Cocoa Powder 🫖Whisk cocoa powder with a small amount of hot water before adding to the batter to unlock deeper chocolate flavor and eliminate dry lumps.
- Don't Overmix After Dry Ingredients 🥄Fold in the oat flour mixture gently just until combined—overmixing develops gluten alternatives and makes brownies cake-like instead of fudgy.
- Applesauce-to-Banana Ratio Balance ⚖️Keep applesauce at or below the banana amount to maintain chocolate-forward flavor; too much applesauce can mask cocoa notes and make brownies taste fruity.
- Test with a Toothpick, Not the Knife 🧁Use a toothpick instead of a knife to check doneness—it won't cut through chocolate chips and cause false reading, ensuring perfectly fudgy centers.
