Instructions
1
Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
2
Cut bread into 3/4 inch pieces.
3
Slice your stick of butter into 4 cubes (it melts more evenly this way) and place it in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for about 1 minute or until the butter is fully melted.
4
Add garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to melted butter. Stir well.
5
Place the bread chunks in a large mixing bowl and pour the melted butter mixture over the top, being sure to not pour it all in one place.
6
Using your hand or a rubber spatula, gently fold the bread pieces until they’re coated with a bit of the butter and seasoning.
7
Cover your baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the bread cubes evenly on the pan.
8
Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Day-Old Bread is Key 🍞Use sourdough bread that's at least one day old; it has less moisture and will crisp up perfectly rather than becoming chewy or soggy.
- Uniform Cube Sizing ✂️Cut bread into consistent 3/4-inch cubes so they toast evenly; larger pieces stay soft inside while smaller ones burn on the outside.
- Butter Infusion Technique 🧈Melt butter gently and whisk in seasonings first, then toss with bread cubes for even flavor distribution—this prevents dry spots and ensures every bite is seasoned.
- Toast in a Single Layer 📐Spread croutons in a single layer on your baking sheet and stir halfway through cooking to guarantee golden, crispy edges on all sides without overcrowding.
- Cool Before Storing ❄️Let croutons cool completely on the baking sheet before storing in an airtight container; this prevents steam from softening them and keeps them crunchy for up to one week.
