In a large bowl, combine the apples, blueberries, sugar, cornstarch, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla.

Top each with a generous amount of the oat crumble.
8

Place the crumbles on a baking sheet, and bake for about 35-40 minutes or until the juices are bubbling over.
9

Allow the crumbles to cool for a few minutes, then top each with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Macerate Your Fruit First 🫐
Toss the blueberries and diced apples with sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch 15-20 minutes before baking to release natural juices and create that signature jammy filling without extra liquid.
  • Toast Your Oats for Crunch 🥣
Lightly toast the rolled oats in a dry pan for 2-3 minutes before mixing with butter and brown sugar to deepen their nutty flavor and ensure a crisp, cookie-like texture in the finished crumble.
  • Chill the Topping Mix 🧊
Refrigerate your crumble topping mixture for at least 15 minutes before sprinkling onto the fruit so the cold butter creates larger, chunkier pieces that stay textured rather than melting into the filling.
  • Use Honeycrisp Apples for Structure 🍎
Honeycrisp apples hold their shape better than softer varieties during baking, creating a pleasant textural contrast against the soft blueberries and preventing a mushy filling.
  • Bake Until Golden, Not Brown 🌟
Remove crumbles when the topping is light golden (not dark brown) to prevent over-baking the delicate oat topping while keeping the fruit filling perfectly jammy and warm.
