Tips & Tricks (5)
- Day-Old Bread is Essential 🍞Use bread cubes that are 1-2 days old and slightly dried out; fresh bread will become mushy and won't achieve that desirable crispy top layer when baked.
- Brown the Sausage Properly 🌭Cook the sausage links until deeply browned on all sides before dicing to develop rich, caramelized flavors that elevate the entire stuffing.
- Toast Bread Cubes First 🔆Lightly toast your bread cubes in the oven at 300°F for 10-15 minutes before combining with other ingredients to prevent sogginess and maintain structural integrity.
- Soak Strategically 💧Add stock gradually to bread cubes just until moistened (not drenched), allowing them to absorb liquid evenly while maintaining texture throughout baking.
- Don't Skip the Apple Caramelization 🍎Sauté diced apples with butter before mixing into stuffing to caramelize their natural sugars and intensify the sweet-savory balance that makes this recipe kid-approved.
