Tips & Tricks (5)
- Crisp Bacon Perfectly 🥓Cook bacon until deeply crispy in a 400°F oven for 15-20 minutes, then crumble it into small pieces to distribute evenly throughout and prevent soggy spots in the casserole.
- Bloom Garlic in Butter 🧈Toast minced garlic in melted butter for 30-60 seconds before mixing into the potato base to intensify its flavor and eliminate any harsh raw taste.
- Layer Cheese Strategically 🧀Reserve half your cheese blend for the top layer and mix the rest throughout—this creates a melted interior while ensuring crispy, browned cheese on top after baking.
- Balance Creaminess Ratios ⚖️Use cream cheese and sour cream in a 1:2 ratio to achieve the perfect balance—too much cream cheese makes it dense, while proper sour cream adds tang without heaviness.
- Finish with Fresh Green Onions 🌱Add green onions immediately after baking while casserole is still hot to slightly soften them, then add a second handful of fresh ones to maintain brightness and prevent them from wilting completely.
