Low-Calorie Mulled Wine

Jule’s Menu
Jule’s Menu

This low‑calorie mulled wine is a lighter, homemade version of the classic German winter drink that uses fruit tea and spices like cinnamon, star anise, and cloves along with fresh orange juice and slices, a modest amount of sugar (or a calorie‑reduced sweetener) and a splash of rum — the result is a warm, fruity, aromatic beverage with less sugar and alcohol than its traditional counterpart, perfect for sipping during the festive season while keeping calories in check.

Ingredients

Instructions

0 of 4 done
  1. Step 1

Pour 1 cup (250 ml) of boiling water over the tea bag and let it steep for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, juice one orange and strain out the pulp. Wash the second orange thoroughly and slice it.

  2. Step 2

Combine the red wine, spices, and apple tea in a pot. Set aside four orange slices for garnish, and add the remaining slices to the pot. Heat the wine gently over low heat for about 10 minutes—do not boil or let it steam heavily.

  3. Step 3

Add the orange juice and sugar, stirring well to dissolve the sugar. Then add the rum and let the mixture steep for another 2 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Strain the mulled wine through a fine sieve and pour it into 4 cups. Garnish with the reserved orange slices and serve hot.
