Tips & Tricks (5)
- Crush Crackers Uniformly 🍘Use a food processor to pulse Ritz crackers into consistent crumb sizes rather than crushing by hand—this ensures even texture distribution and prevents overly large pieces that won't soften properly.
- Toast Crackers First 🔆Lightly toast the crushed Ritz crackers in butter before layering to add depth of flavor and prevent them from becoming soggy during the long baking process.
- Layer the Filling Strategically 🥧Alternate thin layers of crackers and cinnamon-sugar mixture rather than combining them, allowing the syrup to properly saturate each layer and create the illusion of distinct apple pieces.
- Perfect Your Cream of Tartar Syrup 💧Dissolve cream of tartar completely in cold water before heating with sugar and lemon juice to prevent graininess and ensure a smooth, glossy filling that mimics apple pie's texture.
- Chill Before Baking 🧊Refrigerate your assembled pie for 30 minutes before baking so the filling sets partially and the crust stays flaky rather than becoming tough from steam.
