Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2
Place cupcake liners into a cupcake pan.
3
Add cake mix and orange soda to a large bowl, or bowl of a stand mixer, and beat on medium speed for one minute.
4
Fill each of the cupcake liners halfway with the cake batter.
5
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
6
Allow to cool for about 1 hour.
7
Mix frosting and whipped topping together.
8
Add frosting to a piping bag or baggie with the frosting tip inside. (This is easiest done by putting the bag inside a large cup and folding the rim of the bag over the cup.)
9
Gently push frosting down the bag to remove air, then start at the outer edge, gently squeezing the piping bag, and work your way around the cupcake, then around again towards the middle, ending in the middle.
10
Finally, decorate with the orange sprinkles and if you like, insert a piece of a colorful straw into each cupcake.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Orange Soda Substitution Strategy 🧡Replace half the liquid called for in the cake mix with orange soda and half with fresh orange juice for deeper, more authentic orange flavor that surpasses using soda alone.
- Room Temperature Whipped Topping Integration 🍦Allow whipped topping to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before frosting application to achieve a smoother, more spreadable consistency that won't tear the delicate cupcake surface.
- Zest Enhancement Layer 🍊Fold fresh orange zest directly into your vanilla frosting before piping to add complexity and prevent the finished cupcakes from tasting overly artificial or one-dimensional.
- Strategic Sprinkle Timing ✨Apply orange sprinkles immediately after frosting while the topping is still tacky, ensuring they adhere properly rather than sliding off or settling unevenly after the frosting sets.
- Optimal Cooling Before Frosting ❄️Chill baked cupcakes for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator before frosting to prevent the whipped topping from melting and sliding off warm cake surfaces.
