Instructions
1
Preheat oven to 350F.
2
Grease a 9″ x 11″ casserole dish and set aside.
3
In a large bowl, beat together the white cake mix and Sunkist for 2 minutes.
4
Bake for 25-30 minutes, until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
5
Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
6
Meanwhile, place 1 cup of Sunkist in a saucepan and heat until boiling over medium-high heat. Reduce to medium-low and simmer until reduce to 1/4 (2 oz of soda should remain). Allow to cool completely.
7
In a large bowl, beat together the butter and powdered icing sugar for 2 minutes, then add the reduced Sunkist soda. Beat to incorporate, then add the milk as needed to achieve a spreadable texture. Adjust the color with orange food dye, if desired.
8
Use an offset spatula to spread the frosting on the cooled cake.
9
To achieve the fun texture shown in the pictures, use short strokes to spread the frosting, then go back over the frosted cake and rough it up a bit.
10
Garnish the cake with sprinkles and orange slices, as desired.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Enhance Soda Flavor with Fresh Orange Juice 🍊Replace a portion of the milk in the cake mix with fresh-squeezed Sunkist orange juice to intensify the citrus flavor and create a more authentic Orange Crush taste throughout the crumb.
- Candied Orange Slices for Visual Impact ✨Lightly candy your orange slices by simmering them in simple syrup before placing on top—this prevents them from drying out during baking and creates a glossy, jewel-like garnish.
- Room Temperature Butter for Smoother Glaze 🧈Ensure your butter is perfectly softened before whisking with powdered sugar to achieve a silky, lump-free orange glaze that drips beautifully down the sides.
- Add Zest to the Dry Mix for Extra Punch 🎯Incorporate fresh orange zest directly into the cake mix before adding wet ingredients to distribute citrus flavor evenly and prevent zest clumping in the glaze.
- Cool Completely Before Glazing 🕐Allow the cake to cool for at least 1-2 hours before applying the powdered sugar glaze so it sets properly and doesn't melt or slide off the warm cake.
