Instructions
1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spay a 13×9 pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
2
Pour cake mix into a 13×9 pan and bake according to package directions.
3
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add in the milk and cream and stir to combine.
4
Heat the milk to just under a boil.
5
When small bubbles start appearing on the sides of the pan, it’s time to temper the eggs.
6
Take 1/2 cup of the milk and slowly whisk into the egg yolks. The eggs are now tempered and ready to add the pudding.
7
Add the eggs to the pudding and cook for 3 minutes, then remove from the heat. Stir in the vanilla and the butter. Set pudding aside to cool a little.
8
With the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes in the cake.
9
Pour the pudding over the top of the cake, guiding the pudding into the holes. Place the cake in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
10
Take 5 Oreos and crush the chocolate cookies into crumbs and stir them into the 8 ounces of cool whip.
11
Top the cake with the cool whip and return it to the refrigerator for another 30 minutes.
12
Just before serving, crush the remaining 15 Oreo cookies and sprinkle on top of the cake. Garnish with a little chocolate syrup and serve immediately.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Strategic Poking Technique 🍴Use a fork or skewer to create evenly-spaced holes across the warm cake—pierce about halfway through without reaching the bottom to maximize filling absorption while maintaining structural integrity.
- Cream Mixture Temperature Control 🌡️Allow your milk and cream mixture to cool slightly before pouring over the hot cake to prevent excessive evaporation, ensuring the filling penetrates deeply and stays moist throughout.
- Oreo Cookie Crushing Method 🥣Pulse Oreos in a food processor for 3-4 seconds to create varied texture—some fine crumbs and some larger chunks—which provides better visual appeal and prevents a gummy, over-processed topping.
- Whipped Topping Application Timing ⏰Spread whipped topping only after the cake has completely cooled and the filling has fully set (at least 2-3 hours), preventing it from melting and sliding off the cake's surface.
- Overnight Flavor Development 🌙Refrigerate the finished cake for at least 8 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld and the cake to achieve the perfect creamy, mousse-like texture throughout.
