To make the Crust
1
Preheat the oven to 350℉. Line a 9x9-inch baking pan with aluminum foil, leaving the edges to hang over the sides of the pan, and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
2
In a medium bowl using an electric handheld mixer on low speed, beat ½ cup softened butter and flour. Increase the speed to high and beat until the mixture forms a crumbly texture. Pour into the prepared pan and press into an even crust. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Prepare the filling while the crust is baking.
To make the Filling
1
Whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and egg. Fold in the chopped pecans. Once the crust is done, pull it out of the oven, pour the filling over top and spread around evenly before returning to the oven to bake for 18-20 minutes.
2
Let the pan of bars cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes before lifting out using the overhanging foil. For best results, let cool fully before slicing to serve. Enjoy!

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Toast Your Pecans First 🥜Lightly toast pecans in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes before adding to the filling to intensify their nutty flavor and create a deeper, more complex taste profile.
- Chill the Crust Base 🧊After pressing the butter and flour mixture into the pan, refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before adding the filling to prevent shrinking and ensure a crisp, structured base.
- Brown Your Butter 🧈Melt the salted butter slowly until it turns golden brown with a nutty aroma, then let it cool slightly before mixing into the filling for elevated richness and depth.
- Use Room Temperature Eggs 🥚Bring eggs to room temperature before beating to ensure smoother incorporation and a more uniform, fluffy filling texture that binds all ingredients evenly.
- Underbake Slightly for Chewiness 🍖Remove bars when the center still jiggles slightly (about 20-22 minutes) as they continue cooking while cooling, resulting in chewy centers rather than dry, cakey bars.
