Raising Cane’s Style Texas Toast

Raising Cane’s Style Texas Toast

Imagine a cloud, but make it bread. Soft and fluffy inside, golden and slightly crisp on the outside, with a hint of sweetness and a glossy, buttery finish. Whether you tear it apart or slice and toast it, it melts in your mouth every single time.

Ingredients

  • 400–420 grams - all-purpose flour
  • 155 milliliters - warm milk
  • 5 grams - dry yeast
  • 30 grams - sugar
  • 1 tsp - salt
  • 1 - egg
  • 60 grams - butter
  • 1 - egg yolk
  • sesame seeds
  • a little melted butter

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients (except the egg yolk and sesame seeds) to a large bowl.
  2. Make a little well in the center, pour in the warm milk, and dissolve the yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Now knead everything into a smooth, elastic dough – either by hand or using a mixer. It should feel soft but not sticky.
  4. Cut the dough into 6 equal pieces, roll each into a ball, and let them rest under a towel for 10 minutes.
  5. Flatten each ball slightly, then roll it up tightly like a little log. Think mini bread rolls – compact but cute.
  6. Place all 6 rolls side by side in a greased baking dish so they’re snuggled up next to each other.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm spot for 40–50 minutes, until puffed and doubled in size.
  8. Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F).
  9. Brush the tops with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds. This is what gives them that beautiful shine and crunch!
  10. Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until golden on top and baked through. Tip: Stick a skewer in to check – if it comes out clean, they’re done!
  11. Once out of the oven, brush the tops with melted butter while still warm.
