Tips & Tricks (5)
- Toast the Wild Rice First 🌾Lightly toast the wild rice in butter for 2-3 minutes before adding broth to enhance its nutty flavor and prevent a mushy texture in your finished dressing.
- Brown the Sausage Separately 🍖Cook the sausage in a separate skillet until crispy, then crumble and add it at the end to maintain texture and prevent it from breaking down into the rice.
- Caramelize Your Aromatics 🧅Take extra time to slowly cook the onions, celery, and garlic in butter until golden and deeply caramelized—this builds the rich, savory foundation that makes the dish exceptional.
- Reserve Liquid for Adjustments 💧Keep extra warm chicken broth on hand and add it gradually rather than all at once, allowing you to achieve the perfect moisture level without oversaturating the dressing.
- Add Cranberries at the Finish 🫐Stir in dried cranberries during the last 5 minutes of cooking to keep them plump and tart, preserving their bright color and preventing them from becoming mushy.
