Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Cut Vegetables Uniformly 🔪
Slice cabbage, sweet potatoes, and apples into similar-sized pieces so they cook evenly and finish at the same time, preventing some vegetables from becoming mushy while others remain undercooked.
  • Caramelize Before Roasting 🧅
Toss onions and cabbage with a pinch of salt and let them sit for 5 minutes before adding other ingredients—this draws out moisture and helps them caramelize beautifully in the oven for deeper flavor.
  • Layer Smart for Even Cooking ⬆️
Arrange harder vegetables (sweet potatoes) on the bottom of the pan where it's hottest, softer items (apples, cabbage) on top, and sausages in the middle to ensure everything reaches perfect doneness simultaneously.
  • Vinegar Timing is Critical ⏰
Drizzle red wine vinegar in the last 5 minutes of cooking rather than at the start, so its bright acidity doesn't cook off and instead provides a sharp contrast that cuts through the richness of the sausage and butter.
  • Pre-Roast Sweet Potatoes 🥔
Add cubed sweet potatoes to the pan 10 minutes before other vegetables, as they need extra time to become tender; this prevents you from having to increase overall cooking time and overcooking the faster-cooking items.
