Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Sear Before Slow Cooking 🔥
Brown the beef roast in a hot skillet for 2-3 minutes per side before adding to the slow cooker to develop a flavorful crust that enriches the entire dish.
  • Bloom Your Dry Mixes 🌿
Whisk the Italian seasoning mix and brown gravy mix with cold water first, then add to create a silky sauce without lumps or raw spice flavors.
  • Layer Aromatics Strategically 🧅
Place onions and bell peppers on the bottom of the slow cooker to create a flavor base, then nestle the roast on top to prevent sticking and enhance browning.
  • Balance Wine and Worcestershire 🍷
Add red wine early in cooking to allow alcohol to evaporate while developing depth, then finish with Worcestershire sauce in the last 30 minutes for bright umami punch.
  • Thicken at the End for Perfect Consistency 🥄
Mix cornstarch with cold water into a slurry and stir into the hot gravy during the last 15 minutes on high to achieve restaurant-quality sauce without overcooking the meat.
