Tips & Tricks (5)

  • Sear Your Beef First 🔥
Brown the stew meat in a hot skillet before adding to the slow cooker to develop a rich, caramelized crust that deepens the gravy's flavor complexity.
  • Bloom Your Dried Herbs 🌿
Toast the dried thyme and bay leaf in a dry pan for 30 seconds before adding to release their essential oils and intensify their aromatic contribution to the dish.
  • Cornstarch Slurry Timing ✨
Mix cornstarch with cold water separately and add it in the last 30 minutes of cooking to thicken the gravy without clumping or overcooking the already-tender meat.
  • Low-Sodium Broth Strategy 🧂
Use low-sodium beef broth as your base and rely on the Onion Soup Mix and Worcestershire for seasoning, giving you complete flavor control and preventing an overly salty gravy.
  • Skim Fat for Silky Gravy 🥄
Before serving, skim excess fat from the surface of the finished dish with a spoon or fat separator tool to achieve a luxurious, clean-tasting gravy without greasiness.
