Tips & Tricks (5)
- Pat Chicken Dry for Better Browning 🍗Before adding chicken to the slow cooker, pat it completely dry with paper towels to remove surface moisture, which allows the exterior to brown slightly and develop deeper flavor when seared briefly.
- Layer Vegetables Strategically 📚Place harder vegetables like carrots and celery on the bottom of the slow cooker where it's hottest, then layer chicken on top and softer ingredients like green onions near the end to prevent mushiness and maintain texture contrast.
- Reserve Fresh Salsa for Finishing ✨Add only half the salsa during cooking and stir in the remaining fresh salsa in the last 15 minutes to preserve its bright, fresh flavor and prevent it from becoming muted by prolonged heat exposure.
- Bloom Taco Seasoning in Broth First 🌶️Mix the taco seasoning with a splash of warm chicken broth before adding to the slow cooker to activate the spices and distribute them evenly, rather than having them clump or settle unevenly.
- Stir in Sour Cream Off Heat 🥄Always add sour cream after turning off the slow cooker and let it sit for a few minutes, then gently stir to prevent curdling; alternatively, temper it by whisking in some of the hot cooking liquid first before adding to the pot.
