Tips & Tricks (5)
- Toast Your Poppy Seeds 🌱Lightly toast poppy seeds in a dry pan for 1-2 minutes before adding to the dressing to unlock their nutty flavor and enhance the salad's complexity.
- Emulsify Your Dressing Properly 🥄Whisk the mayonnaise and white wine vinegar together first, then slowly drizzle in sugar while whisking constantly to create a creamy, cohesive dressing that coats the greens evenly.
- Slice Strawberries Last Minute ⏰Cut fresh strawberries just before serving to prevent them from releasing excess moisture and becoming soggy, which will also keep your greens crisp and the salad from becoming watery.
- Thin Slice Your Red Onion 🧅Use a mandoline to create paper-thin onion slices, then briefly soak them in ice water for 5 minutes to mellow their bite while maintaining their crisp texture and sweet flavor.
- Dress Right Before Service 🎯Toss the romaine with dressing only minutes before serving to maintain the lettuce's crispness; dress strawberries and onions separately if preparing ahead to control moisture and prevent wilting.
