Tips & Tricks (5)
- Chill Your Pudding Base 🧊Mix the instant vanilla pudding with half-and-half and sweetened condensed milk, then refrigerate for 10 minutes before folding in whipped topping to ensure a perfectly thick, creamy texture that won't separate.
- Layer Timing is Critical ⏱️Add banana slices as the final layer just before serving to prevent them from browning and becoming mushy, preserving their fresh texture and preventing liquid absorption into the cookies.
- Toast Your Cookies Lightly 🍪Briefly toast the vanilla wafers in a 300°F oven for 3-4 minutes to enhance their buttery flavor and create a slight crunch that resists softening longer when surrounded by the creamy pudding mixture.
- Balance Your Sweetness Ratio 🍌Add the sour cream (1/2 cup per standard recipe) to cut through the sweetness of condensed milk and caramel, creating a more sophisticated, balanced dessert that prevents cloying aftertaste.
- Drizzle Caramel Strategically 🍯Swirl caramel sauce between layers rather than mixing it throughout to create beautiful ribbons of flavor and maintain distinct taste pockets instead of uniform sweetness throughout the pudding.
