Tips & Tricks (5)
- Precook Broccoli for Perfect Texture 🥦Steam or blanch broccoli for 3-4 minutes before adding to the casserole to ensure it stays tender-crisp rather than mushy, since it will continue cooking in the oven.
- Toast Rice for Enhanced Flavor 🍚Lightly toast the dry rice in butter for 2-3 minutes before cooking to develop a nutty, deeper flavor that elevates the entire dish.
- Combine Cheese Sauces Strategically 🧀Melt Velveeta and cheddar cheese soup together separately first, then add milk gradually while whisking to prevent lumps and ensure a silky, smooth sauce throughout.
- Caramelize Onions for Depth 🧅Cook diced onions low and slow in butter for 5-7 minutes until golden and slightly caramelized to add rich, sweet complexity that balances the processed cheese flavors.
- Reserve Topping for Crunch ✨Save a handful of shredded cheddar mixed with panko breadcrumbs to sprinkle on top during the last 5 minutes of baking for a golden, crispy contrast to the creamy interior.
