Tips & Tricks (5)
- Toast Your Panko for Crunch 🥖Toss panko bread crumbs in melted butter and toast in a skillet for 2-3 minutes before topping to create a golden, crispy crust that won't get soggy.
- Make a Proper Roux Base 🧈Whisk flour and butter together over medium heat for 1-2 minutes before adding milk to eliminate lumps and create a silky, smooth cheese sauce foundation.
- Bloom Your Dried Mustard 🌟Whisk dried mustard with a splash of milk before adding to the sauce to activate its flavors and prevent clumping for deeper, more complex taste.
- Shred Your Own Velveeta Alternative 🧀Cut Velveeta into small cubes rather than trying to shred it; this ensures faster, more even melting and a creamier final texture throughout the dish.
- Reserve Pasta Water for Consistency 💧Save 1 cup of starchy pasta cooking water to adjust sauce thickness after mixing—it helps the cheese coat every noodle perfectly without drying out.
