Tips & Tricks (5)
- Reserve Pasta Water for Sauce Perfection 💧Save 1 cup of starchy pasta water before draining—add it to your tomato sauce to create a silky texture that binds beautifully with the béchamel layer and prevents the baked dish from drying out.
- Master the Béchamel Technique 🧈Melt butter completely before whisking in flour to create a smooth roux, then add milk slowly while stirring constantly to avoid lumps—cook until it coats the back of a spoon for the perfect creamy consistency.
- Undercook Pasta by One Minute 🍝Cook spaghetti to just under al dente since it will continue cooking in the oven—this prevents mushy pasta and maintains a pleasant bite in your final baked dish.
- Layer Strategically for Even Baking 📐Alternate layers starting with sauce, then pasta, then béchamel, finishing with a cheese topping—this ensures every forkful gets all three components and prevents the top from browning too quickly.
- Rest After Baking for Clean Slices ⏱️Let the baked spaghetti rest for 10 minutes after removing from the oven—this allows the sauces to set and makes serving portions that hold their shape instead of falling apart.
