Tips & Tricks (5)
- Chill Your Mixture 🧊Refrigerate the pork mixture for 15-20 minutes before forming meatballs to prevent them from falling apart during cooking and ensure they hold their shape perfectly.
- Toast Five-Spice First 🌟Lightly toast the five-spice powder in a dry pan for 30 seconds before adding to the meat mixture to bloom the spices and intensify their aromatic flavors.
- Don't Overwork the Meat 👐Mix the pork gently and minimally—overworking creates dense, tough meatballs; use a light hand and fold ingredients just until combined.
- Balance Your Sauce 🎯Taste and adjust your sweet-savory sauce by adding fish sauce for depth, vinegar for brightness, or honey for sweetness depending on your preference before the final simmer.
- Cornstarch for Glossy Finish ✨Add cornstarch slurry (mixed with water) to the sauce in the last 2 minutes to create a gorgeous glossy coating that clings beautifully to the meatballs.
