Tips & Tricks (5)
- Slice Against the Grain 🔪Cut the ribeye against the grain into thin strips before cooking to ensure maximum tenderness and that melt-in-your-mouth texture that defines an authentic Philly cheesesteak.
- Caramelize Your Onions and Peppers 🧅Cook the sweet onions and bell peppers low and slow for 8-10 minutes until deeply golden and caramelized, which builds complex sweetness that balances the savory beef and cheese.
- Toast Your Hoagie Rolls 🥖Butter and lightly toast your hoagie rolls cut-side down until golden crispy - this prevents them from getting soggy from the meat juices and adds crucial textural contrast.
- Layer Cheese While Meat is Hot 🧀Add provolone cheese to the hot beef and vegetables off-heat, then cover the skillet for 30 seconds to allow it to melt perfectly without overcooking the meat.
- Season the Meat, Not Just at the End ⏱️Apply kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder directly to the raw beef strips 15 minutes before cooking so the seasonings fully penetrate and enhance the meat's natural flavor.
