Garlic-Butter Baked Chicken Breasts with Cheese
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
2
Season the chicken breasts on both sides with the salt and black pepper, and arrange them in the prepared baking dish. Drop the softened butter by half-teaspoons over chicken. Sprinkle the minced garlic and Italian seasoning evenly over the chicken.
3
Bake the chicken breasts on middle rack of oven for 20 minutes.
4
Open the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over chicken. Continue baking until cheese is melted and chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F, 5-10 minutes.
5
Check to see that chicken is done. Remove from oven or add time as needed.
6
Spoon any garlic-butter sauce in the pan over the chicken and serve immediately.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Butterfly for Even Cooking 🔪Slice chicken breasts horizontally to create uniform thickness, ensuring the garlic-butter mixture penetrates evenly and prevents dry edges while centers remain juicy.
- Brown Garlic Butter First 🧈Toast minced garlic in melted butter for 1-2 minutes before applying to chicken to develop deep, nutty flavors that elevate the dish from simple to restaurant-quality.
- Cheese Placement Strategy 🧀Add shredded cheese in the final 3-5 minutes of baking so it melts beautifully without browning excessively or becoming tough and rubbery.
- Pat Dry for Better Browning 💧Use paper towels to thoroughly dry chicken breasts before seasoning—moisture prevents proper browning and helps the garlic-butter coating adhere better during baking.
- Tent with Foil to Retain Moisture 🫖Cover chicken loosely with foil for the first 15 minutes of baking, then uncover to allow cheese to brown slightly while keeping meat tender and preventing overcooking.
