    Add the basil leaves and garlic cloves to a food processor or blender and pulse a few times until roughly chopped.

    Add olive oil and pulse again to start forming the pesto.

  3. Step 3

    Scrape down the sides of the bowl or container with a spatula.

  4. Step 4

    Add grated Parmesan cheese, a pinch of salt, and black pepper to taste.

  5. Step 5

    Pulse again until fully combined and smooth or leave slightly chunky, depending on your desired texture.

  6. Step 6

    Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–5 days.
