Tips & Tricks (5)
- Bruise Your Spices First 🤜Gently crush the cinnamon stick, cloves, and ginger with the back of a knife before simmering to release their essential oils and deepen the flavor complexity of your chai.
- Steep, Don't Boil 🫖Add your chai tea bag only after removing from heat and let it steep for 3-5 minutes; boiling water can make the tea bitter and overpower the delicate spice balance.
- Froth Your Milk Properly 🥛Heat milk to 150-155°F and use a frother or whisk vigorously to create a creamy microfoam that enhances texture and allows spices to distribute evenly throughout.
- Infuse Spices Separately 🌟Simmer whole spices in water for 5-7 minutes before adding the tea bag to create a concentrated spice base that won't become overpowering as it cools.
- Balance Sweet and Spice 🎯Add brown sugar gradually and taste as you go—start with 1 teaspoon per cup and adjust, as the natural warmth of spices amplifies perceived sweetness and prevents an overly sugary drink.
